AAR 2
From: Bruce Fiolek
6 years ago, a gaming friend of mine left town for a year only to return 1 year later with four freshly-painted, 15mm armies from the Successors period. We played a home-grown, bastardized version of DBM games. Very shortly, a campaign was organized based, coincidentally, on the same S&T game we were using this past weekend. 4 players, 15mm figures, a non-stop, 8-hr day-long playing session, and an "attacker's choice" between DBM and Armati rules to resolve our battles. (One gameboard strength point counted as one stand of troops.) We did not use a referee and, therefore, had 100% perfect information on the progress of the competition as each of us moved our own counters around the known world. We got through half a dozen or so turns. That day remains amongst my most memorable gaming experiences.
I found this Jodiecon campaign to be very much the "same as above," except on a grander scale: more players; more figures; bigger figures; longer playing time; rules calling for multiple troops stands representing one gameboard strength point. One added feature this time 'round was the limited intelligence Norbert was using. Boy, what a difference this simple change makes.
I would like to echo the several thank-you's that have already gone out to the organizers and last weekend's referees. Seeing how an unusual number of gamers were from New York, perhaps something similar may develop in the future in the wake of the Panzeris' absence. (Then again, maybe not - events like these are difficult to pull together.)
