AAR 1

Fellow officers,

The morning dawned hot again and the stink from the battlefield was strong. Lafayette was already up scouting and receiving reports and it seems the British have slinked away from their battlefield camp during the night and are en route to New York. I have walked to the center of yesterday's field of honor and have claimed it. The battle is ours!

I wish to thank you all for fine service under terribly hot weather. Your men kept together under the heaviest pressure the British Royal army could muster and they DID NOT FALL! We have taken some bloody losses but we have cannonaded such a large hole in their forces that they will never underestimate our ability again.

So now we regroup; we have von Steuben at the new recruits streaming in; and we form up for the march north. There is a new country to be won.

I am your
elated Continental Commander,
George Washington
