AAR 7
From: French Army Chief of Artillery (LTC Donald Walter Hawker)
Dear Vasil'chikov:
I enjoyed your After Action Report very much.
It sounds that overall you yourself enjoyed the game; which means,
that who ever put on the program was successful.
Your interest tells me that you are a warrior at heart and that we
all like to know and appreciate. I salute you.
Having been everything from a infantry man to cannoneer to Executive
Officer, and acting deputy Group Commanding of the 41st Artillery
Group in Combat in Viet Nam I know the desires of the man in the
foxhole.
When the enemy fires at him, in his behalf he would like everything
thrown at his advisarry including the kitchen sink. Unfortunately,
we know that is not possible.
Artillery is an asset that we do not like to lose because of its
versatility: Strike in your sector and with few commands and slight
movement, strike in another. Artillery commands are structured for
the greatest striking power and some times to a soldier being shot
at, he would like more help but perhaps that fire is needed more
elsewhere, hence, the corps commander and his staff.
I would like to write more but unfortunitely I am on my way out the
door for several days.
Once again, I enjoyed your e-mail and look forward to others I
hope.
Your friend in wargamming,
LTC Donald Walter Hawker
Known to my friends and enemys as "Slim".
Happy New Year.
